Copy protection is often emotionally debated, and is thought to sometimes infringe on some users' property rights: for example, the right to make a backup copy of a videotape they have purchased, to install and use computer software on multiple computers, or to upload their music into their digital audio player for easier access and listening. You must be at least 18 year of age to be an iTales Contributor.

What type of stories can be put on iTales?

In what language should the story be told?
iTales accepts stories in every language. iTales is a global community of storytellers. A single story can also be recorder in multiple languages – a great tool for those learning new languages!

Who owns the story once it is placed on iTales for sale?
The storyteller and those involved with their project own the total rights to their stories, as iTales only assists in marketing the product on behalf of the Storytellers, much like a record store selling the latest CD’s.

What makes a good story?
A good story is in the “ear” of the beholder – it is entirely subjective. The story may be real or make-believe and about almost any subject imaginable. Either way, it should capture the imagination of the listener. See Support for further details.

The sound quality of a story is also extremely important. There are many resources on iTales to help you learn more about recording tips for your stories. (See the iTales Resources section for some interesting links.)

How do you ensure good sound quality when making a story?
Because stories on iTales are in an audio format, they should have good sound quality (e.g., no echoes or interference from outside noises, etc.). A consistent volume is also important. See Support here.

What is the maximum story length?
iTales.com is the place for short stories. The content should be no longer than 1 hour (60 minutes).

Can I put my book on iTales?
If you are the author of a short book and you would like to read that book and sell the reading of it on iTales, that’s great! Remember, the content should be no longer than an hour. If the book is not yours and you do not have rights to read it – then don’t! Please refer to the copyright section of the Full Terms and Conditions for more on this important subject.

What language should I put my story in?
We encourage story Contributors to record their story in more than one language. This is the perfect tool for those trying to learn new languages. When your story appears, the languages it is available in will be noted next to the story details information.

Do I get anything for putting a story on iTales?
Absolutely! The story Contributor gets 40% of the story revenue each time it is sold. You simply record the story and load it on the site a single time. From there, we help you to store and market your story and give it exposure to a global audience.

Your story revenue is paid to you when your Story Commissions reach over $25.00 (U.S.) and are paid on a quarterly basis. At the end of each year, any outstanding commissions will be paid. Checks will be paid to you directly from iTales. Because your revenue is income to you, you are responsible for all taxes on that income.

How do I get paid?
iTales will pay you at the address indicated when you became a Member. Commissions are paid when they reach $25 or more and are paid on a quarterly basis.

How do I price my story?
iTales believes that story Contributors should have control over the price of their own content. Due to the fact that storing and moving audio files across the web is expensive, iTales establishes a base price for individual story sales based on file size and length. From the minimum base price of 49 cents per story. If later you find that your story is over or under priced, you can easily go into your account and change the price.

Bundled Pricing
iTales has the right to select certain stories and bundle them for group sales and change the price and Contributor revenue percentage on bundled stories. If and when one of your stories is selected for a bundled price, iTales will contact you to negotiate a separate rate for the story inclusion in the bundle. If you would like to be included in these opportunities, please check the box during the registration process allowing us to contact you in the future. An example of a bundled story might be selling a group of stories for a holiday CD or other compilation. Since these stories are sold just “one time” and listened to again and again, a different, bundled pricing model is required. In some instances you may make more money than selling the stories on an individual basis, and in others, you may make slightly less. Our interests will always be on the side of our customer – you, the Contributor.

iTales requires a minimum charge for each story of 49 cents. As a Member Storyteller you can set the price for your stories at the level you feel will provide the greatest profitability, after meeting this minimum.

You may at any time adjust the price of any story after log-in by editing your story.
